Our Club conducted a cleanliness drive for the Kesaliya wards 5 and 6, along the Koshi Project Canal, in collaboration with Biratnagar Mahanagarpalika. This initiative followed the celebration of Chath Pooja by over 25,000 devotees along the canal’s ghats, which left the waterway covered in banana trees, plastic bags, and other trash. The cleanup involved eight workers who worked for five days, covering approximately two kilometers of the canal. The Mahanagarpalika provided essential logistics such as trucks for waste transportation and access to the dumping ground.
The total cost of the project was 30,000 NPR. The beneficiaries of this initiative were the residents of Biratnagar, particularly those in wards 5 and 6 of the Kesaliya area. Such programs play a crucial role in improving water quality, reducing the risk of flooding, supporting local biodiversity, boosting public health, and enhancing the aesthetics of the area. Additionally, they help attract tourism, raise property values, and foster a sense of community engagement.
